From lofty townhouses and iron-clad balconies of the French Quarter, all the way down to the famous above-ground cemeteries, New Orleans has more the flavor of an old European capital than an American city.
Mardi Gras, JazzFest and countless other cultural festivals make up a year-round calendar of events in the City of Festivals. New Orleans musicians truly represent a potpourri of musical richness, performing everything from zydeco and gospel to jazz, rhythm and blues and new age rock.
Music is literally in the air, at street parades, jazz funerals, seasonal festivals, and drifting from open doors all around the city.
Perform and ServePerformance opportunities and service projects abound - from exchange concerts to public performances. Old Saybrook Band & Choir added a little elbow grease to their performance tour in 2009 by volunteering with Katrina Corps Organization to refurbish a school damaged in the hurricane.
They saved time to explore the French Quarter, take a swamp tour, listen to some outstanding jazz at Preservation Hall, perform an exchange concert with a local school and, of course, take a cruise on the Mighty Mississippi.
