The northernmost (and somehow westernmost and easternmost) Scandinavian country is a scenic delight.  Even though more than half its coastline is above the Arctic Circle, Norway’s climate is milder than you might think, making it easy to get outdoors whether you’re enjoying the Aurora Borealis or the sun that never sets.  All along the coast you’ll find the majestic and distinctively Norwegian fjords, and just one glance will explain their appeal.  For the most adventurous, there are glaciers of blue ice where you can get in touch with your inner Viking, and for the more urbane traveler, there are sophisticated cities, offering delicious seafood and the very coziest sweaters on earth.  Learn about the homeland of your favorite Edvards (Munch and Grieg), and maybe even schedule your trip around Syttende Mai, Norway’s Constitution Day, when festivals and parades throughout the country offer great performance opportunities.

Troldhaugen:  The home of composer Edvard Grieg and his wife Nina is a historical museum and a modern-day musical retreat.  Visit the villa and composer’s hut where Grieg spent the last 22 summers of his life, pay respects at his gravesite, and learn something new in the museum.  You may even catch a concert in the beautiful hall on site, or a performance on Grieg’s own Steinway!
